Read MoreGrisha, we were surprised to find that our 63 lb, reactive, heeler-GSD-pit mix is easier to walk on a 15 ft leash than she was on a 6 ft leash. The safety tips (two hands on the leash at all times, and taking care not to let the leash loop around a hand or finger), and "slow stop" skills were especially helpful. Thank you. Our dogs enjoy their extra freedom on their longer leashes, and we've nearly eliminated arm, hand, and back injuiries related to dog walking. In addition to the skills learned in this course, we have found that a harness with front- and rear- attachment points is helpful. We use the front attachment when needed (lots of triggers abound), but with the utmost care not to injure our dog friends. Also, the "engage-disengage" game (from ASoundBeginning) in which we mark ("YES") and treat our dogs when they encounter a trigger is helping our dogs be less reactive.
