Setting up safe scenarios to promote social skills.

This video is for anyone working on preventing or rehabilitating reactivity. You'll see several live demonstrations and explanations of the Behavior Adjustment Training technique for dog (re)socialization. Whether you are familiar with BAT 2.0 or not, this video will help you see how to put this effective tool to work.

This is a short introduction to BAT set-ups, with variations. It should be enough for professionals to start implementing BAT if you have also watched Walk With Me to learn the leash skills. For an in-depth guide, I also recommend the BAT 101 course.

  • Barking, lunging, growling on walks.

  • Fighting with other dogs in the home.

  • Avoiding or shutting down around people or dogs.

  • Biting or barking at people.

  • Also useful for socializing PUPPIES and all dogs!

  • Included with Diamond & Gold Memberships (see below).

Taking dog empowerment to the next level.

When dogs have a sense of safety, appropriate social skills emerge.

  • 1.5 Hour Video

Part 5 of the Empowered Animals DVD series, now available as streaming dog training video. I recommend you watch the "Talk With Me," "Walk with Me" and "Survival Skills" videos first to really understand this technique. Pro trainers should at least watch "Walk With Me."

  • What's new in 2.0?

Originally developed in 2009, BAT 2.0 is the newly updated version that is simpler, faster, and easier for dogs and people to do. P.S. For biting/fighting: if you aren't a dog trainer, I still recommend you hire a CBATI or local positive trainer familiar with BAT.

  • Bonus Material

You'll also get PDF notes of the Powerpoint from the presentation and a quick quiz for understanding. The quiz also allows us to issue a certificate if you are a professional and need CEUs.

    1.5 CPDT CEUs.

BAT made a difference counterconditioning alone did not

Charlie Hackenbruch

Blaze is my crossover dog, and reading the original BAT book was a part of my crossover journey. I started trying to teach my dog to self soothe - and I started seeing that in the weekly socialization group I was going to for my dog training apprenticeship, dogs were being corrected - corrected lightly and gently, but still corrected - for sniffing and exploring instead of focusing. BAT made a tremendous improvement in my reactive dog that desensitization and counter conditioning alone did not. So after I turned to training with aversive tools because I wasn't finding success with positive training, Behavior Adjustment Training gave me success I wasn't getting using a balanced approach, and brought me back to positive training. Blaze is 7 now and in many ways is the easiest dog in my house.

BAT is a way of life

Bernardina Marriott

After years of being a know it all.. Kimmy found me..she was very very frightened, reactive, and just not loving life...but there was something there .. the bond between us was there from the start.. I got Kimmys confidence and trust in me.. but there was always something just not right... still not a happy pup.. Then at dog school our trainer had been to a seminar and Grisha was there talking about a 'new way of letting the dogs work things out for themselves,'.. This opened my eyes... found YouTube clips, read the book.. and slowly every so slowly this little wonder dog started to shine.. As well as I did and still doing.. BAT to me is a way of life. For all living things... If we just open our eyes.. watch.. feel relaxed.. and willing to learn the world will open up... Thanks Grisha from me and Kimmy and all the other dogs that you have helped...

Really calming

Jill Wattles

I’m fairly new to BAT, but this is the little guy I’m using for all my practice, Ziggy! Came out of a bad situation and fearful of everything, but really calming with the BAT work

Transformed my dog's life

Liz Mitchell

It was many years ago, but your first book helped transform my dog's life. He had lived in a world of fear, but BAT helped him get used to so many things. He was never fully happy with other dogs, unless he knew then well, but he was able to go out for walks on a long line and have fun in his life.

Grisha Stewart

I'm a dog trainer, author, and international speaker based in Oregon, USA. My specialty is mental wellness for all beings, including dogs, i.e., dog socialization and reactivity. My Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT) technique is used worldwide to help dogs gain confidence and social skills.

I have always been a teacher. I earned a Master's in mathematics to become a college instructor, but I found my true passion in helping people and dogs. I have been teaching dog training and behavior in person since 2003, started traveling worldwide to teach dog trainers in 2010, and also added an online school in 2014. I focus on force-free methods to promote the well-being of dogs and their humans.
